      <image:title>Our Team - Dana August M.S.Ed Head of Sciences</image:title>
<image:caption>Dana began her career working as an educator in an aquarium setting, as well as a crew member aboard a Connecticut-based research vessel. These experiences combined her loves of protecting the environment and learning about ocean ecosystems, and exposed her to the world of teaching. She immediately fell in love with the excitement that is derived from knowledge and discovery, as well as the added adventure of teaching at sea. She then found herself in the Caribbean working as a SCUBA instructor, where she continued to develop her teaching skills in a not-so-typical environment. Eventually, her love of both learning and teaching led her back to the mainland. She immersed herself into the classroom upon her return, to pursue teacher training. She worked as a classroom teacher from 2013-2019, teaching middle and high school science and Singapore math, and working with students who struggle with language-based learning disabilities. She has also worked closely with students as an executive functioning coach, as well as tutoring specific math and science topics ranging from Kindergarteners to High School Seniors. She has since completed her Masters of Professional Studies degree in Science Education and Special Education from Manhattanville College. Dana's primary experience and passion are centered around students with learning differences, specifically dyslexia, ADD/ADHD, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and other visual/auditory processing disorders. Dana is excited to engage with new students, to model a variety of problem-solving strategies, and to empower students to own both their learning and progress.</image:caption>

<image:title>Our Team - John Stimson M.S.Ed Head of Phys. Ed and Sports Programs</image:title>
<image:caption>John began his teaching career at SUNY Cortland studying physical education. Earning his Bachelor’s of Science in Education in 2013 and Master’s Degree in Physical Education Leadership in 2014, John landed his first teaching job working in Queens at Success Academy Charter Schools. From 2014-2015 John taught elementary physical education grades K-2 in a classroom / multipurpose room setting between two different schools in the district. This job required creative lesson planning that included topics such as teamwork and sportsmanship, healthy habits, and introductions to a variety of sports and physical activities. This experience helped build his class management style to ensure stimulating lessons where safety of the students were always put first. Looking to expand his knowledge of physical education along with a number of professional development sessions around NYC, John came across the Brooklyn neighborhood Cobble Hill, where he discovered Mary McDowell Friends School. John took his experience he learned from Queens and brought it to Brooklyn in an adaptive elementary physical education setting. This school specializes in students with language learning disabilities with a student teacher ratio of 5:1. John works with one other physical educator teaching grades K-5 and coaches varsity cross country and varsity track and field for Mary McDowell. During the summer, John helps run sport camps in Smithtown, Long Island. These camps include teaching the fundamentals of lacrosse, soccer, baseball/softball, basketball, flag football, and golf along with the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship. John has a passion for providing a space for young student athletes to help discover their love of sports and physical activity. Providing engaging lessons aiming to improve students physical skills along with mindfulness breaks and mental health tips, John’s physical education experience brings a well rounded approach to each area he teaches.</image:caption>
